This is also surprisingly expressive at this early stage with a broad-ranging nose that features notes of apple, pear, white flowers, wood spice and a hint of something mildly exotic. The big-bodied yet refined flavors possess a wonderfully textured mouth feel thanks primarily to the abundance of palate coating dry extract that does a beautiful job of buffering the notably firm but not aggressive acid backbone on the hugely long finish where a hint of wood appears. The 2014 Bâtard Montrachet Grand Cru has a more powerful bouquet than the Bienvenue-Bâtard-Montrachet, very energetic with fresh pear, white peach and citrus fruit. The palate is nicely balanced but does not quite offer the detail and precision of the Bienvenue at the moment. It's a grand cru that will hopefully up its game by the time of bottling, because on this showing, it is surpassed by the 2014 Bienvenue. Drink: 2018-2030. The 2014 Meursault 1er Cru Perrières, raised in a judicious 15% new French oak, has a powerful, punchy bouquet that puts the Genevrières 2014 in the shade. This races out of the blocks with dried pineapple, citrus and stony notes, quite extravagant and whilst not delivering the same killer level of mineralité as others, it does put a smile on your face. The palate is well balanced with a keen line of acidity, just a hint of lemon zest flanked by dried apricot and grilled walnut notes. It gambols along to what feels like quite an intense finish. This is very firmly reduced at present and it seems sufficiently firm that I would not be inclined to open a bottle before allowing at least a few years of bottle age. On the plus side there is excellent mid-palate concentration to the intensely mineral-driven flavors that possess cuts-like-a-knife delineation, all wrapped in an overtly saline and tension-filled finale that is dry to the point of mild austerity. Like the Genevrières, this was almost finished with its malolactic fermentation at the end of May. Cloudy, pale yellow-green. Slightly metallic aromas of apple, lime leaf and spearmint. Offers an attractive sweet touch but the saline flavors of crushed herbs and white pepper are quite tight today. Weber vinified three plots together because quantities were so low in 2014. Totally closed for business...I hope. Apple aromas and flavors on opening made me worry it was premoxed, but over the following days it showed density, texture, and length that was more promising. You get rockmelon, white peach and lemon. There's a suggestion of aniseed and it is voluminous, direct and light on its feet. It has a fabulous minerally spine and grand cru depth and length. There is good verve and detail to the velvety flavors that display a hint of acid tang on the mildly rustic finish. The 2014 Nuits St Georges 1er Cru les Vaucrains comes from some of the domaine's oldest vines that are approaching their eight decade. It appears to have a little more mineral-drive compared to the Les Saint Georges at the moment. It is very precise and focused. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin, beautifully judged acidity and a slight meatiness, gaminess just coming through on the finish. Perhaps on reflection, I just have a preference for the Les Saint Georges that seems to have that sense of completeness, though this should still be very fine. The 2014 Nuits St Georges 1er Cru les Vaucrains comes from some of the domaine's oldest vines that are approaching their eight decade. It appears to have a little more mineral-drive compared to the Les Saint Georges at the moment. It is very precise and focused. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin, beautifully judged acidity and a slight meatiness, gaminess just coming through on the finish. Perhaps on reflection, I just have a preference for the Les Saint Georges that seems to have that sense of completeness, though this should still be very fine. Bright medium red. Very ripe aromas of redcurrant, minerals and damp earth are a bit less fruity and pristine than those of the Saint-Georges. Broad, fat and rich, with building redcurrant and raspberry flavors displaying impressive volume but not quite the energy or precision of the Saint-Georges. There is a sense of completeness here. The palate is crisp and fresh with succulent tannin, blood orange infusing the red and black fruit that dovetails Into a sorbet-like finish. There is more size and weight as wellt o the concentrated flavors that coat the mouth with dry extract that also serves to buffer the markedly firm finale. Best from approx. 2023+. The 2014 Chambolle Musigny 1er Cru Les Combottes has a broody, gravel-tinged bouquet with undergrowth and briary scents, one that is decidedly more introspective than the Bussières. The palate is underpinned by very fine, slightly chalky tannin. The acidity drives this along, almost citric towards the pointed finish with a stony aftertaste.
